Bernadette. Peters was born Bernadette. Lazzara in Ozone Park Queens New York 28 February 1948 is a singer/songwriter, as well as an author of children's books. In her five decades of professional career performing on stage, she's appeared on stage and in the theatre as well as solo concerts and recordings. She's been nominated to seven Tony Awards and won two in addition to 8 Drama Desk Awards. Four of the Broadway album of cast on which she's starred were awarded Grammy Awards. Peters began her career in acting performing on stage during the 1960s when she was an teen, then later during the 1970s she appeared on television and film. This early work, her roles on The Muppet Show The Carol Burnett Show along with various television shows and her roles in films such as Silent Movie The Jerk Pennies from Heaven was highly praised. Her return to Broadway in the 1980s, where she became the most famous Broadway performer for the following thirty years. In addition to having recorded six albums of her own as well as a number of singles, and a variety of album of cast, she also performs frequently in her own concert. Peters continues to make appearances on screen and television, and she's been recognized and nominated for three Emmy Awards.
